Signalling Record Society

Signalling Publications

In line with its objective of making information about signalling widely available, The Society publishes a number of books, CDs, and research papers. These are available for purchase both by members and by non-members alike.

Much of the content is previously unpublished information about signalling and related topics that is likely to be of interest to members and others. Items may be published individually or in series, and two particular aims are to cover areas and topics that are otherwise not well covered, and to encourage members to publish the valuable information they have collected that might otherwise be unlikely to find a publisher.

Audio Recordings

Audio recordings have been made in some signal boxes. They faithfully reproduce the sounds heard during the normal working of the signal box, sounds of block bell operation, signallers' conversations and passing trains. More...

Signalling Papers

These contain the fruits of research into signalling topics. The papers are of some technical or historical weight, usually dealing with a subject at greater length than would be appropriate in an article in The Signalling Record but not sufficient to justify a book. They are intended to be comprehensive and definitive accounts of their subject. More...

The Signalling Record & SRS Newsletter

The Signalling Record was first issued in January 1987 and has been issued every second month since. Copies are sent on publication to each paid up member as part of their subscription benefits.

The Newsletter was published to members from the inception of the Society until the end of 1986, after which it was superseded by The Signalling Record. More...

Research Notes

As the name implies, these are notes which set out the state of the contributor’s research on a particular topic at the present time. They may be no more than a list of, or index to, items of information thought to be useful to other members; perhaps dates, places or document references. They can be regularly updated and may be in manuscript form. More...

These Registers list basic physical and chronological details of every known signalbox. Each relates to the lines of one pre-1923 grouping railway company. By their very nature, they are enormously time-consuming to produce, and therefore new ones appear only infrequently. More...

Items are photocopied to order and, except at times of absence due to holidays or business, orders will normally be despatched within three weeks.

UK postage and packing

Orders for delivery to addresses in the United Kingdom will be dispatched by second class post. The charge for postage and packing is 10% of the cost of publications ordered, minimum £0.75, maximum £4.00.

Overseas postage and packing

Orders for delivery to addresses outside the United Kingdom will be dispatched by air mail at the Small Packet rate. The charge for postage and packing to addresses in Europe is double the UK p&p amount shown for each book; the charge for addresses outside Europe is three times the UK p&p amount shown per order.
