FARSAP logo Coleraine

The signal box at Coleraine was opened as Coleraine Junction in 1924 and renamed Coleraine in 1938 when Coleraine South signal box closed. Inside an NX (Entrance-Exit) panel had replaced the Railway Signal Company lever frame in 1989. The signal box controlled the area from Slaght Level Crossing, just north of Kellswater, right through to Portrush, interfacing with Belfast Central and Castlerock. There is a busy road junction right in the middle of the level crossing which is quite unusual.

1855 Line constructed and opened by the Ballymena and Portrush Railway.
1861 Taken over by the Belfast & Northern Counties Railway.
1870s First signal boxes at Coleraine.
1903 Amalgamated with the Midland Railway and administered by the Northern Counties Committee.
1903 Northern Counties Committee became part of the London, Midland & Scottish Railway.
1948 Northern Counties Committee transferred to British Transport Commission, Railway Executive.
1949 Northern Counties Committee sold to Ulster Transport Authority.
1967 Became Ulster Transport Railways.
1968 Became Northern Ireland Railways.
1996 Translink created to integrate rail with Ulsterbus and Citybus.
