Signalling Record Society

FARSAP logo David Pendleton

David spent some thirty years a signalman of which two thirds were spent at Healey Mills. In 2014 he decided to take voluntary severance from Network Rail so that a colleague displaced from Sheffield could take his place, decision largely influenced by the pospect of an unwelcome move to the Regional Operations Centre at York.

This video, filmed in Healey Mills signal box, records David's description of how a signaller in a power signal box goes about his daily tasks and how the various aspects of technology allow him to take sound operating and regulating decisions. It also touches on his earlier career and his new duties at Oakworth.

The geographic location of Healey Mills signal box can be seen on a current OS Map. The map will place this location at the centre of the map panel, roll the mouse over the icon(s) to reveal what they represent. Increase the scale using the scale selector on the left to separate closely positioned icons.
