Safeguarding and Other Policies

Safeguarding Young Persons and Vulnerable Adults

Membership of the Society is open to anyone with an interest in signalling regardless of their gender, age, race, disability, religion or sexual orientation. Likewise any member of the public may attend meetings and the archive premises without being discriminated against other than as set out in the next paragraph of this policy.

The trustees require that vulnerable persons, including those under the age of 18, attending a meeting or visiting the Archive be accompanied by an adult family member or friend who will take full responsibility for them. They are only permitted to attend meetings unaccompanied if they provide a written note from an appropriate adult to the organiser to confirm that they accept full responsibility.

The trustees will not permit vulnerable or young people to attend visits unless prior appropriate arrangements have been agreed with the owner of the premises to be visited. In all such circumstances they must be accompanied by an adult family member or friend who will take full responsibility for them.

Where visits are to premises not open to the public, the Society accepts that the premises owner may refuse access on grounds of safety or it is unreasonable or impracticable to provide disabled access.
