Data Privacy Notices

We only hold information about you if you are a member or have registered an account with The Bookstall. The personal data for each of the three sets of personal data are kept separate from each other and need to be kept up to date separately.

Access to the web site and the bookstall for the purpose of looking round does not require you to provide any personal information nor do we collect any information about your visit.

Membership Records including Gift Aid Records

This notice is applicable to all past, present and future members of the Signalling Record Society.

The Society respects your right to privacy. The personal information you provide is held on computer in the SRS Membership Database and the Gift Aid Database. This information is used to record and verify your membership of the Society, to enable us to mail you the copies of The Signalling Record and SRS News to which you’re entitled, to contact you by post (and/or by email should you agree to it) on any Society matter, and to grant you access to any facilities and entitlements available only to members of the Society. It is also used to record whether or not you have signed a Gift Aid Declaration, whether or not it is still in force and as the basis for our Gift Aid claims from HMRC.

The printers of The Signalling Record and SRS News carry out mailings of the journals on our behalf. We supply your name, address, membership number and certain coded information to them for that purpose. This aside, the Society does not share any of your personal information with any third party unless obliged to under UK law. The Society will not use your personal data for any purpose other than those set out in this notice.

At the same the Society is keen to encourage the exchange of information between members. When you first join the Society we will, if you agree to it, publish your name, address and any interests you outline, in The Signalling Record, and also include those details in a Membership Directory, which may be made available to members from time to time in either hard-copy or electronic (PDF) format. This can put you in touch with other members who share your interest.

It is your responsibility to notify us of any changes to the personal information you have provided or if any of the coded infromation codes are incorrect so that we may keep our records up to date.

The “Email” Contact List

The Society may send members occasional emails about meetings and events etc., particularly when arranged or changed at short notice, and other things likely to be of interest including announcements of new books and publications.

A record of who has opted in forms part of our Membership Records above. The list is not open to non-members.

Members Forum

This notice is applicable to all members, past, present and future, who have joined the Members' Forum on the Society web site.

The Society respects your right to privacy. The personal information you provide is held on computer in the Forum Database and is used to verify your membership of the Society both when joining and subsequently to verify your continued membership.

Your personal data will not be used for any other purpose, nor will it be shared with third parties.

It is your responsibility to update your personal information in the Forum Database which you can do at any time by logging in to the Forum and changing the entries in your personal profile. Please note that your posts will not be deleted if you decide to be 'forgotten'.

On-line Bookstall

The Bookstall keeps details of customers for our records and to enable you, the customer, to review your past purchases from us. The extent of the personal information we keep is that which you enter when you first register. The accuracy of this information is the responsibility of you, the customer, and you can correct any errors or update the information at any time by logging into your account and changing it. Please note that your transaction records will not be deleted if you decide to be 'forgotten'.

By opting to receive our newsletters you give your consent to receiving these whenever we issue one. You can change your decision in respect of newsletters at any time by logging into your account and changing the newsletter option setting.

We do NOT share our customer details with any other organisation or body unless we are required to do so by UK law. We do NOT keep any detail of customer bank accounts or credit cards; such information is retained by Paypal (or your bank) and is never divulged to us.

The Bookstall does place 'cookies' on your computer but only insofar as it is essential for the operation of the shopping cart system.
